Ritz-Carlton (Sarasota,FL)

The Ritz-Carlton is a world renowened 5 star upscale luxury hotel chain. Now, the company is part of Mariott Bonvoy. The Ritz- Carlton Sarasota is located right in Downtown Sarasota, Florida. About 60 miles south of Tampa. This location has a private beach club which is off site at Lido Key, a golf course and a spa.

The hotel is doing their part to keep guests and staff safe during the coronavirus pandemic. The hotel requires everyone to wear masks while in public areas. The hotel also has several sanitation stations around the property. A couple other things that the hotel offers is touchless entry, and increased cleaning.

Upon arrival we are greeted by a sweet valet attendant, Joe. The valet attendants all wore gloves when parking the car. The valet came with a hefty $34 / overnight charge. We proceed to the front desk and are greeted by a warm hotel agent Jud. We then proceed to our room. Our room was beautiful with a view of the bay and marina in the distance. The hotel room was cleaned and sanitized. One positive about this hotel as opposed to others is that this property does a daily room cleaning where as others have limited it to once every three days or upon checkout.

I took advantage of the spa downstairs. The spa was lovely and the staff was well-trained. After a nice massage in the morning we headed over to a nearby beach, Siesta Key. Siesta Key Beach is constantly rated one of the nations best beaches. We chose to visit Siesta Key since the beach at the hotels beach club was under construction at the time. They were adding sand and there were bulldozers around. Siesta Key did not dissapoint. It was a hot August Saturday and the beach was full. Luckily, people were properly socially distancing.

After a long day at the beach we return to a nice clean hotel room to prepare for a nice dinner downstairs at the hotels restarurant, Jack Dusty. The restaurant serves up seafood and bayfront views. The restaurant also creates craft cocktails. I enjoyed a Siren. This beverage is an experience with gin/vodka, grapefruit juice, cranberry juice and Prosecco.

Another amazing day we return to the room and turn in for the night. The next day we wake up rather late and it is too late for breakfast so we returned downstairs for the lunch menu at Jack Dusty. The lunch is reasonably priced and amazing. Our lunch server also provided the best service that we received at the property. We enjoyed lunch and went to the pool that was located on site for a while. The on-site pool was beautiful and had spectacular views.

Shuttle arrives at 1:00 pm and we head to the Beach Club at Lido Key. The Beach Club is about a 10 minute drive from the hotel. The club is near St. Armands Circle, a lovely shopping district with a ton of shops and restaurants. The shuttle is complimentary. The Beach Club was exquisite. Lido Key Beach was under construction and had orange fences up right in front of our cabana ($350 at that!) but still was nice. The beach club is free for hotel guests or you can sign up for a membership. We did not end up staying for a very long time since we got rained out. This is not new to us living in Florida. It rains every day during the summer. If you’re staying at the property it’s definitely worth going to check out. The pool is large with plenty of seating around if you do not want to book a cabana. I suggest booking a cabana. It included two chairs covered, a hammock, waitress as well as two chairs out in the sun. The Beach Club property has a tiki bar and restaurant. These were both closed when we visited in August 2020.

The bus left promptly at 6:30 pm which was the last shuttle back to the hotel for the day. We returned back to the hotel and showered off. Downstairs to the restaurant Jack Dusty and enjoyed dinner again at the hotel.

Our staycation ends the next morning with a late checkout for being Bonvoy members. We depart the hotel at 1:00 pm. We had only one issue with the hotel, namely that there was no checkout on the TV. We had to go down to the front desk since we needed an itemized statement of our bill. This is a great hotel to stay if you’re from anywhere in Central/ Southern Florida. Traveling in from Orlando was a short 2:45 hour drive and very scenic. One of the best staycations in Florida! Be sure to visit other posts about different great SW Florida vacations!
